At a glance
The Westphalian Dachsbracke is the short-legged variety of the German Hound (Bracke), corresponding to the long-legged variety in essential points but giving a compacter, more powerful impression. It is a moderately long, sturdily built hunting dog with a very dense and coarse coat, red to yellow with a black saddle or mantle and the white "Bracken" markings — blaze or snip, white muzzle, collar, chest, legs and tail tip. The standard gives its height as 30–38 cm and is placed by the FCI among the small-sized hounds, with working trial.

Health
This page is general information compiled from published sources. It is not veterinary, legal or purchase advice. Dogs vary within a breed — talk to a vet or a reputable breeder about the dog in front of you.
Health notes are not veterinary advice. Conditions listed are those reported for the breed, not a diagnosis of any dog. Always consult a veterinarian.
The breed standards this profile is built from don't list breed-specific health screening. Ask a vet which checks suit the dog in front of you.
Behaviour
Standard gives no temperament section
This 1987 FCI standard carries no Behaviour / Temperament section. What it does say about disposition is inside General Appearance: the facial expression is faithful, friendly, serious and alert. Utilization is given simply as hound, and aggressive or overly shy dogs are a disqualifying fault. Nothing further about the breed's character is documented by the FCI.
