The Treeing Feist is one of the American feist breeds developed in the rural South from hound and terrier crosses by people who needed a low-maintenance dog to hunt small game and keep vermin down; UKC recognised it in 1998. It is an agile, active small tree dog of 30–46 cm and 5.4–13.6 kg with a blocky head, a short smooth coat and any colour or pattern. The standard says Treeing Feists are used most often on squirrel, raccoon and opossum, hunt by both sight and scent, are extremely alert, and are virtually silent on track.

Deafness is a disqualification
The UKC breed standard lists deafness among the disqualifications for the Treeing Feist. If you are unsure whether a dog hears normally on both sides, ask your vet about a BAER hearing test. The standard does not discuss any other health condition and no parent-club health page was located.
Behaviour
Alert, silent on track, hunts by sight and scent
The UKC standard says Treeing Feists are used most frequently to hunt squirrel, raccoon and opossum, hunt using both sight and scent, are extremely alert dogs and are virtually silent on track; the breed is to be evaluated as a working dog and honourable scars should neither be penalised nor taken as proof of working ability.
