At a glance
The Småland Hound originated in Sweden as a combination of German and Polish scenthounds crossed with English hounds and local spitz-type dogs; as recently as the 1950s new blood was added by admitting dogs of similar type but unknown pedigree. It is a robust, strong, somewhat elegant hound of about 42–53 cm with a harsh, close-fitting coat of medium length over a well-developed undercoat. The UKC standard describes its temperament in one line: calm and kind, with a faithful and keen nature.
