The Karst Shepherd Dog comes from the Karst massif in Slovenia and is classified by the FCI as a molossian of mountain type (group 2, section 2.2). It is a shepherd dog by excellence and a good guard, today used mostly for guard and defence work and as a family dog, and is recognisable by its iron-grey, long and abundant coat over a thick undercoat. Males stand 57–63 cm (ideal 60 cm) and weigh 30–42 kg; females stand 54–60 cm (ideal 57 cm) and weigh 25–37 kg.
