At a glance
The Japanese Spitz is a Japanese companion dog covered with a profuse pure white coat, with a pointed muzzle, triangular pricked ears and a feathered tail carried over the back. The FCI places it in group 5, section 5 (Asian spitz and related breeds); its outer coat is straight and stand-off over a short, soft, dense undercoat, with a full frill from neck to forechest. The standard gives a height at the withers of 30–38 cm for dogs and states only that bitches are slightly smaller.
