Great Anglo-French White and Black Hound

The Great Anglo-French White and Black Hound originates from the "Bâtard Anglo-Saintongeois", the mid-nineteenth-century cross between the Saintongeois and the Foxhound; at the time the standard was drafted the breed counted about 2,000 dogs with roughly 200 births a year, making up the packs of twenty or more deer hunts and one stag hunt. Big, rather powerful, resistant and robust with the strong bone of its Gascon-Saintongeois ancestry, it wears a short, quite strong and dense coat that must be white and black, with a pale tan dot above each eye; males stand 65–72 cm and females 62–68 cm. The FCI standard says it excels in hunting stag and deer on damp or bushy terrain and describes a friendly dog, close to humans and easy to manage in the kennels.
