At a glance
The Cesky Fousek — the Bohemian wire-haired pointing griffon — was once the most widely kept pointing dog in what are now the Czech and Slovak republics; it was nearly wiped out in the First World War and rebuilt through carefully planned breedings, and is today one of the most popular hunting breeds at home. It is a noble-looking medium-to-large wire-haired pointer of about 58–66 cm and 22–36 kg, built as a multi-purpose dog for field, water and woodland, with a harsh coarse topcoat, longer guard hair, a typical beard and upward-pointing eyebrows. Despite strong hunting instincts the UKC standard says the breed is easily trained and devoted to its master.

Health
This page is general information compiled from published sources. It is not veterinary, legal or purchase advice. Dogs vary within a breed — talk to a vet or a reputable breeder about the dog in front of you.
Health notes are not veterinary advice. Conditions listed are those reported for the breed, not a diagnosis of any dog. Always consult a veterinarian.
No published breed-specific screening
The UKC breed standard is the only kennel-club document found for this breed and it does not discuss health; no parent-club health page or breed-specific veterinary study was located. Ask your vet what routine screening suits a dog of this size and job.
Behaviour
Strong hunting drive, but easily trained
The UKC standard says that despite strong hunting instincts the Cesky Fousek is easily trained and devoted to its master, and describes the breed as a multi-purpose dog for field, water and woodland.
