At a glance
The Calupoh is a Mexican breed reconstructed from crosses between native Mexican dogs and the grey wolf, a combination considered sacred in pre-Hispanic Mexico — remains have been found at the Temple of Quetzalcoatl, the Pyramid of the Moon and the Templo Mayor. Modern Calupoh are no longer crossed with wolves but keep the noble bearing of their ancestors: a balanced dog with slightly long legs, a medium-length black coat and striking yellow eyes, males standing about 61–74 cm and females 56–69 cm. The breed standard describes a versatile dog and great companion which, thanks to its extreme tolerance and nobility, adapts to any activity.

Health notes are not veterinary advice. Conditions listed are those reported for the breed, not a diagnosis of any dog. Always consult a veterinarian.
No breed-specific screening named
The AKC breed page states only that most Calupohs are healthy dogs and names no breed-specific condition or screening test; no parent-club health page was located. Ask your vet what routine screening suits a large, active dog.
