Blue Picardy Spaniel

The Blue Picardy Spaniel (Épagneul Bleu de Picardie) is a French continental pointing dog descended from the black and black-and-white "épagneuls du Nord" described in nineteenth-century Picardy, and recognised as a breed of its own when its standard was registered in 1938. Quite low to the ground and well built for the job, it carries flat or slightly wavy hair, well fringed on legs and tail, in the silver-grey to black speckling that gives the bluish shade of its name; males stand 57–62 cm and females 55–60 cm. The FCI standard describes a flexible and gentle dog with an even temperament, well adapted to family life, placid and never aggressive, and athletic enough to want a daily walk.
